National Instruments PXIe-8389 PXI Remote Control Module
The PXIe‑8389 (Part Number: 781761-01) is a Remote Control Module developed by National Instruments, which allows users to control PXI and Compact PCI systems by using a fully transparent MXI‑Express link from a PC. The NI PXIe-8389 module has a built-in high-lane-count PCI Express switch. This switch allows end-to-end data transfers from PXI Express. It can also be transferred to any other PXI Express slot through a PXI Express Chassis.
The National Instruments PXIe-8389 Remote Control Module is structured with a downstream slot to enable the transfer of data among the daisy-chained chassis. The data transfer occurs through a copper, MXI‑Express cable. The cable options come in 1 m or 3 m lengths. The NI PXIe 8389 is additionally recommended for multi-chassis configurations. This module is compatible with NI rack-mount controllers. It can deliver the throughput to 5.6 GB/s unidirectional maximum. The PXIe 8389 can also sustain throughput up to 2.8GB/s bidirectional.
The NI PXIe-8389 module has two three-color LED indicators, which are attached on the MXI-Express x16 card. These LED indicators alert users about power supplies and the link state. The amber LED indicates the power is within a specified limit. It also indicates establishment of the link. The green LED indicates the power is within spec and a link is established. There are additional LEDs near the front panel, which inform users of link status about the lanes on the module. The NI PXIe-8389 Remote Control Module is 10.0 x 16.0 centimeters. The module weighs 14.2 oz.
PXIe-8389 End of Life Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the module will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.
