The NI PXIe-PCIe8388 (Part Number: 781759-03) has a x16 Gen 2 cabled PCI Express link which links a PXI Express chassis to the RMC-8354 or RMC-8355 Rack-Mount Controller. This NI MXI-Express Kit contains a PCIe-8388 board in a PC, linked with a x16 Gen 2 PCI Express copper cable to a PXIe-8388 module in slot 1 of a PXI Express chassis. The NI PXIe-PCIe8388 has the capability to interface three PXI Express Chassis to one PC (the RMC-8354/RMC-8355). Another feature of this kit is the onboard high-lane-count PCI Express switch. This feature allows peer-to-peer information transfers from any PXI Express slot to another PXI Express slot in a PXI Express chassis. However, the user should keep in mind that not all PXI Express modules have a peer-to-peer data streaming capability.
The National Instruments PXIe-PCIe8388 MXI-Express Kit is solely compatible with National Instruments Rack-Mount Controllers. Since the MXI-Express link functions at high data rates, it needs minimal jitter on the PCI Express 100 MHz reference clock created by the PC. National Instruments Rack-Mount Controllers provide the necessary small amount of jitter; they can additionally support daisy chaining as many as four 18-slot PXI Express chassis to one Rack-Mount Controller.
Other features of the NI PXIe-PCIe8388 MXI-Express Kit include the capability to be used with a 1 or 3 m copper cable, a maximum throughput of 8 GB/s for each direction, and 1 port. The power requirements of the PXIe-8388 module are 1.54 A typical current or 5.25 A maximum current at +3.3 V.
