National Instruments 780381-02 Engineering Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI ELVIS)
The 780381-02 is an NI ELVIS II+ multi-functional educational engineering lab workstation for academic settings that integrates 12 separate laboratory instruments into one single USB-powered unit, allowing you to replace individual units such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, function generators, variable power supplies, and Bode analyzers. The 100 MS/s oscilloscope built into this unit offers improved sampling rates for higher-level courses. A USB interface provides plug-and-play operation for easy set-up and communication between your computer and the unit. Also included with this system is a removable protoboard that can be used by students to build and test their own circuits on the workstation.
The 780381-02 Virtual Instrumentation Suite provides a means of teaching hands-on, interdisciplinary experimentation within both engineering, physical science, and biological science labs. Through interactive direct use of each instrument, educators can instruct students how to measure, produce a signal, examine frequency response, and apply power to circuits using the built-in adjustable variable supplies (±5V, ±15V; 0-12V adjustable). The product has an open architecture that utilizes NI LabVIEW software to allow users to create their own custom virtual instrumentation and automate their measurements. Using NI Multisim also enables the user to bridge theoretical simulation and physical prototyping, reinforcing the underlying principles of electronics and control. The unit includes NI ELVISmx software, which provides point-and-click access and LabVIEW integration.
In terms of educational support, the 780381-02 NI ELVIS II+ can support everything from introductory circuitry classes through senior design projects in areas including mechatronics, telecommunication, and embedded systems. Optional plug-in modules available from Quanser and Emona are capable of adding customized capabilities in control and communication labs. The Virtual Instrumentation Suite provides a cost-effective and space-saving way to deliver modern curriculum content to students. It promotes deep experiential learning while reducing equipment costs and usage requirements. As an "educational only" product, it has been designed specifically for educational purposes so that features have been developed for use within the classroom setting for project-based engineering education in all types of institutions.
