Texas Instruments Power Electronics Board
The NI ELVIS III platform can be docked with the Texas Instruments Power Electronics Board (Part Number: 786514-01). This versatile application board is designed for both engineering professionals and students, allowing them to study both basic and advanced principles of power electronics and power system management. Meeting industry standards, this board provides a comprehensive hands-on learning platform. Using Texas Instruments components, the board also serves as a practical laboratory for building, analyzing, and observing the functioning of some basic power conversion circuits.
The product contains four independent functional sections, which are the building blocks of modern power systems. The sections included are the Discrete Linear Regulator section, the Discrete Buck Regulator, the DC-AC Inverter section and the AC-DC Rectifier section. Each section is a complete circuit, allowing for investigation of various concepts such as open-loop and closed-loop operation, pulse width modulation, error amplifier operation and continuous and discontinuous conduction modes. The Power Electronics Board has several test points, configurable jumpers and status indicators, allowing for considerable voltage, current and temperature measurements to be performed under various operating conditions. The board is powered and operates under control of the NI ELVIS III unit, which provides power and function generator signals through a special connector and control through a digital I/O interface.
Used mainly in academic and research environments, this power electronics board is incredibly useful in all of the power supply design, renewable energy systems and motor drive courses and laboratories. The Power Electronics Board gives students hands-on experience applying academically taught power electronic theories and concepts. Among other things, it makes it possible to build rectifiers, inverters, linear regulators, and buck converters.
