The PXIe-8862 features high-bandwidth backplane integration via Gen 3 PCI Express link speeds up to 8.0 GT/s, supporting configurable backplane topologies including four x4 links or two x8 links. Front-panel peripheral and networking interfaces feature dual Thunderbolt™ 4 Type-C ports, two DisplayPort 1.4 video outputs, an RS-232 serial port, an optional IEEE 488 (GPIB) instrument control port, and optional TPM 2.0 hardware security support. Advanced networking capabilities are driven by dual Intel i225 2.5 GbE Ethernet controllers supporting low-latency data streaming and precise network timing.

Engineered for high reliability in demanding rack environments, the controller operates across an ambient temperature range of 0 °C to 55 °C (-40 °C to 71 °C storage) with operational shock resistance rated to a 30 g peak (11 ms half-sine pulse) and operational random vibration immunity of 0.3 grms from 5 Hz to 500 Hz (2.4 grms non-operational).
