The National Instruments 780587-93 (PXIe-2593) is a 500 MHz, 50-ohm RF multiplexer switch module engineered for high-frequency signal routing in PXI Express systems. Built with electromechanical relays, it features 16 channels in a flexible single-bank architecture supporting five distinct routing topologies: 16x1 multiplexer, dual 8x1 terminated multiplexer, 8x1 terminated multiplexer, dual 4x1 multiplexer, and an independent topology mode for custom switching paths. Safety-rated under CAT I, the module manages switching voltages up to 150 VAC across channel-to-channel and channel-to-ground connections.
Designed for low-level signal integrity as well as high-frequency signal handling, the PXIe-2593 supports a maximum RF carry power of 10 W at 500 MHz, a maximum switching current of 0.5 A per channel, and a maximum carry current of 1 A (up to two channels simultaneously). A low minimum switch load threshold of 10 µA / 10 mV ensures accurate low-level measurement routing. The initial DC path resistance is rated under 1.0 ohm, while insertion loss remains extremely low across the spectrum—staying under 1.2 dB up to 200 MHz and under 1.9 dB up to 500 MHz in the 16x1 configuration, with even lower loss profiles in 8x1 layouts (under 0.9 dB up to 200 MHz).
The 780587-93 delivers rapid operation with a typical relay actuation time of 2.4 ms (4.4 ms maximum). Robust mechanical design yields an expected relay life of 50 million operations, backed by an electrical life rating of 300,000 cycles under a 30 V / 0.3 A DC resistive load. Fully integrated within the PXI Express platform, this module provides an ideal switching solution for high-density RF test stations, automated wireless validation systems, and general-purpose high-frequency signal routing.
