National Instruments 779131-01 PXI Sound and Vibration Module
The National Instruments 779131-01 (PXI-4462) is a four-channel dynamic signal acquisition module designed for sound and vibration measurements. The PXI-4462 uses 24-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with simultaneous sampling across all four channels, providing the resolution and dynamic range needed to measure low-level acoustic and vibration signals. The module supports sampling rates of up to 204.8 kS/s, with selectable rates of 44.1, 48, 96, and 192 kS/s. Its front-panel connections include three BNC connectors and one SMB connector.
The input circuitry supports both differential and single-ended configurations and provides six gain settings ranging from −20 dB to +30 dB. Software-selectable AC or DC coupling allows the module to accommodate a variety of sensor configurations. The PXI-4462 also supports IEPE sensors, including many commonly used microphones and accelerometers, with integrated IEPE excitation to simplify sensor connections.
The module provides a dynamic range of up to 118 dB and total harmonic distortion of −107 dB at 1 kHz. Its combined analog and digital filtering helps prevent aliasing and removes unwanted frequencies outside the measurement bandwidth. A high-pass filter with a cutoff above 3.4 Hz helps reduce low-frequency drift and DC offset.
This PXI Sound and Vibration Module is designed specifically for data acquisition and does not provide analog output channels. Multiple modules can be synchronized using shared clocks and triggers, allowing measurements to remain phase-aligned across several acquisition channels or PXI modules. This makes the module particularly useful when accurate timing between multiple signals is required.
Typical applications include audio testing, automotive noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) testing, machine condition monitoring, and resonance analysis. The module can be integrated with NI measurement and programming software, including LabVIEW and NI-DAQmx, for automated acquisition, analysis, and test applications. Its high dynamic range, selectable gain, sensor support, and filtering capabilities make it well suited for both research and production test environments.
