National Instruments 778554-01 PCI Multifunction I/O Device
The 778554-01 is a PCI-6115 multifunction data acquisition card that provides four pseudo-differential analog inputs using 12-bit A/D converters, capable of independent sampling of these four inputs at 10 MS/s. This card also has an onboard FIFO memory buffer of 32 Mbytes. The onboard FIFO buffer allows for continuous, non-stop data collection. Additionally, two analog outputs are provided at 12 bits and can update at rates of 4 MS/s. These analog outputs allow for closed-loop stimulus and response tests. Eight TTL/CMOS digital I/O lines are also available for controlling and/or monitoring various functions of the D/AQ board. Two 24-bit counters are onboard and can be used for precision timing, event counting, and frequency measurement.
Analog input channels on the 778554-01 acquire signals simultaneously versus utilizing a multiplexer, which provides phase and timing error elimination between different signals. This is an important feature when working in demanding test applications where having no phase and/or timing errors is critical. Input range options for the analog channels are configurable from 200 mV to 42 V. This configuration option allows engineers to configure their acquisition sensitivity based upon the strength of the signal being measured. Some example uses for this capability include testing automotive electrical systems at 42V, radar and sonar signal processing, ultrasound diagnostic equipment, capturing transients, ballistic tests, and high-energy particle physics experiments. An onboard digital trigger provides the ability to start, stop, or timestamp data acquisitions based upon external events occurring within complex test sequences.
To configure the 778554-01, you use the NI-DAQmx driver combined with the Measurement & Automation Explorer utility. Using this software combination greatly simplifies setting up your data acquisition channels, calibrating those channels and routing your measured signals to appropriate locations for processing. The Measurement & Automation Explorer utility also allows you to view diagnostic information about your installed hardware and configured system. Users have the option of developing code for this product using either graphical development tools such as LabVIEW and LabWindows/CVI and/or text-based development tools such as Measurement Studio. Since bus powering is supported on this product, external power supplies are unnecessary, and therefore it is easier to install this product into any available slot in standard or industrial PC enclosures.
