National Instruments 778771-01 Multifunction DAQ
The National Instruments 778771-01 is an 8-channel PXI-6133 (simultaneous sampling) data acquisition card that has been designed for use in high-speed multichannel measurement applications. This product belongs to the NI S Series of products; therefore, it utilizes a separate A/D converter for each analog input, allowing for true simultaneous sampling at up to 3 MS/s per channel, using 14 bits. Due to the fact that there is a separate converter for each channel as opposed to the traditional multiplexed approach where all channels utilize a single converter and have a maximum throughput regardless of how many channels are active, the total system throughput increases as additional channels become active. As such, the engineer has a means to meet their demands on a modular basis. In addition, four different input voltage range selections provide users with the ability to select the appropriate signal level to obtain optimal resolution based upon the test condition.
In addition to its analog capability, the 778771-01 has eight 10 MHz digital I/O lines and two 24-bit counter/timer units. These provide the ability to perform exact timing measurements, event counts, and trigger functions. Both analog and digital trigger inputs are available on the Multifunction DAQ, allowing users to synchronize their test instrumentation to other instruments in their system. Up to 32MB of onboard memory allows the part to acquire signal information continuously for extended periods of time regardless of whether or not there are sufficient resources available on the bus. This makes it well-suited for acquiring both high-bandwidth and transient waveforms during extended periods of time.
Some common uses for the 778771-01 include intermediate frequency digitizing, transient event recording, and telecom manufacturing test, including ISDN, ADSL, and POTS technologies. Additionally, the part may be used to analyze ultrasound and sonar signal information and high-energy physics research where multiple channels of data need to be captured simultaneously. Due to its non-multiplexed design, the Multifunction DAQ minimizes settling-time errors and channel-switching distortion that are commonly associated with multiplexed designs. Therefore, it is very useful for dynamic waveform measurement as opposed to DC-only sensing.
