National Instruments 776570-02 4-Slot Signal Conditioning Chassis

The National Instruments 776570-02 is a part number for the SCXI-1000 AC-power version, a modular 4-slot chassis for housing, powering, and controlling SCXI modules inside a data acquisition system. In order to identify which chassis has been provided (the chassis has an internal standard AC power supply), a large variety of input voltage ranges have been incorporated into the chassis, including 100, 120, 220, or 240 volts AC at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz to provide the means for worldwide use. The chassis provides low noise performance and is responsible for the timing, triggering, and signal routing of signals from module to module across the SCXIbus backplane, allowing for simultaneous scanning of input channels. Additionally, the chassis can operate in two methods: multiplexed and/or parallel mode to accommodate different channel configurations of the analog inputs from the DAQ device.

In terms of scalability, the 776570-02 allows engineers to daisy chain up to eight units together from a single multifunction I/O device. Furthermore, each unit can have one of thirty-two different addresses set on a series of front panel DIP switches. Therefore, multiple chassis can be used in conjunction with a single control source. The chassis is physically small (it measures 9.8 x 7.7 x 7.0 inches) and light (approximately 8 pounds and 10 ounces), so it will fit well on a lab bench or in a rack mount application. Additionally, the chassis dissipates 7 watts per slot and can operate over a temperature range of 0°C to 50°C with a storage range of -20°C to 70°C.

Although National Instruments has designated the 776570-02 as obsolete, there are still many reasons why this chassis would be a good choice if you need to maintain your current SCXI-based measurement system and/or expand upon it. For example, because of the chassis's robust construction and its low-noise design, it would be an excellent choice for applications where signal quality is paramount.
