National Instruments PCI-232I/4 Serial Interface Board
The PCI-232I/4 is a Serial Interface Board developed by National Instruments. The PCI-232I/4 is available under part number 777854-04. The PCI-232I/4 board is used to communicate with other instruments via serial ports. The PCI-232I/4 interface board incorporates four connections on a single panel. 10-position modular jacks are used for this purpose. Conventional DB-9 or DB-25 connectors can also be used with this Serial Interface Board with the use of optional cable accessories. The PCI-232I/4 works on the principle of RS-232 serial protocols. The PCI-232I/4 board can be used to transfer data up to a distance of 50 ft without any interruption or data loss.
The PCI-232I/4 Serial Interface Board supports the PCI bus. Optical isolation is a feature provided in the PCI-232I/4 board. It makes communication reliable in noisy systems. The required power of the Serial Interface Board is +5 VDC. The typical current at +5 VDC is 500 mA. The PCI-232I/4 can bear a maximum current of 750 mA without any damage. This Serial Interface Board also features ESD protection on a data line up to +15 kV. The PCI-232I/4 can transfer data at a maximum speed of 115.2 kb/sec. A FIFO buffer is also provided in the PCI-232I/4 board with a memory size of 64 B.
The supported software for the PCI-232I/4 is NI-Serial. The NI-serial software is supported for Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP. The NI-serial software comes with a built-in device driver. The NI-serial software also includes diagnostic and configuration utilities.
