SLSC-12001, 12 Slot, 27.6 V Maximum Input Voltage, 3m Cable Length, Chassis for SLSC
National Instruments SLSC-12001 Chassis for SLSC
Featured with an optional Rear Transition Interface (RTI) and Integrated Protection, the National Instruments SLSC-12001 (Part Number: 784532-01) is a 12-Slot Chassis for Switch Load Signal Conditioning (SLSC) modules. This chassis provides a Gigabit Ethernet communication interface, trigger lines, and power lines to facilitate signal conditioning and switching functions. This chassis requires an external +24 V DC power supply to operate. The power it receives is distributed to attached SLSC modules over an internal power supply bus.
The internal power bus of the SLSC-12001 offers input overvoltage, reverse voltage, and short circuit protection at each module slot. The optional RTI incorporated in this chassis routes conditioned I/O signals to measurement and control systems. This chassis maintains communication with each attached module and manages connectivity with a host computer through a standard Ethernet connection. When power is applied to the SLSC-12001, the POWER LED turns green immediately, and the chassis fans start. When the STATUS LED and POWER LED both turn green, it indicates that the chassis is ready to operate and provide host communication.
For storing real-time clock information, this chassis contains a lithium cell battery (Tadiran TL-2450) that users can replace. Each attached module draws power from the SLSC-12001 Chassis via the +24 V and +3.3 V rails. The control system of the chassis prevents startup if a module has a short circuit on the +3.3 V rail. This chassis consumes approximately 45 W of power with no module installed and up to 720 W when fully loaded. The maximum supported Ethernet cable length is 100 meters, while the power input cable should not exceed 3 meters.
National Instruments has announced the SLSC-12001 as obsolete, but Apex Waves continues to offer this chassis for purchase and repairs.

National Instruments SLSC-12001 Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How Does the National Instruments SLSC-12001 Chassis Connect to a Measurement System?
Answer: The SLSC-12001 Chassis connects to a host computer via a standard Ethernet connection (10/100/1000 Mbps). It interfaces with measurement and control systems, such as PXIe or CompactRIO (cRIO), through the optional Rear Transition Interface (RTI). The RTI allows conditioned I/O signals to be routed directly to a Data Acquisition (DAQ) system for streamlined testing and automation.
Question: What Are the Power Requirements and Consumption Details of the National Instruments SLSC-12001 Chassis?
Answer: The SLSC-12001 Chassis requires a 24V DC external power supply with an input voltage range of 21V to 27.6V DC. The chassis consumes approximately 45W when no modules are installed and up to 720W when fully loaded. Each slot is powered through +24V (2A max) and +3.3V (400mA max) rails, and the chassis includes built-in short circuit, overvoltage, and reverse voltage protection at each module slot.
Question: How Does the National Instruments SLSC-12001 Handle Fault Detection and Protection?
Answer: The SLSC-12001 Chassis features multiple fault detection mechanisms to ensure system stability and protect connected modules. If a module has a short circuit on the +3.3V rail, the chassis will not start, and no front panel LEDs will turn on. If a module has a short circuit on the +24V rail, the chassis will power on but disable the +24V rail for all modules, indicated by an amber POWER LED. Additionally, the chassis prevents operation if all five cooling fans fail, shutting down the +24V rail to protect modules from overheating.
