The National Instruments 781004-01 (USB-6216) is a bus-powered, isolated multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) device designed for precise measurement and control in high-noise or electrically floating test environments. Featuring 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog inputs with 16-bit resolution, the device delivers an aggregate sampling rate up to 400 kS/s. It features excellent signal fidelity, including a 100 dB common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) from DC to 60 Hz, a 1.5 MHz small-signal bandwidth (-3 dB), adjacent channel crosstalk below -75 dB (at 100 kHz), and non-adjacent crosstalk below -90 dB. Continuous data streams are supported via USB Signal Streaming or programmed I/O, backed by a 4,095-sample input FIFO buffer and a 4,095-entry scan list with 50 ns timing resolution.
For signal generation and control, the USB-6216 offers two 16-bit analog output channels providing a ±10 V range with an update rate of 250 kS/s per channel, a 0.2 Ω output impedance, and built-in overdrive protection up to ±30 V. The module includes up to 32 bidirectional digital lines and two 32-bit counter/timers for edge counting, pulse generation, semi-period, period, and two-edge separation measurements. An integrated single-channel frequency generator provides flexible output rates derived from onboard 10 MHz or 100 kHz base clocks (50 ppm accuracy) using selectable divisors from 1 to 16.
Power and current protection features include a dedicated +5 V terminal operating between 4.6 V and 5.2 V (50 mA current limit shared with digital outputs), while input power configurations accept 4.75 V to 5.35 V protected by a 350 mA self-resetting fuse. Designed for reliable desktop or field operation, the 781004-01 operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 45°C (storage from -20°C to 70°C), making it an optimal solution for isolated data logging, sensor monitoring, and automated test environments where ground-loop isolation is paramount.
