Newport MM3000-OPT Motion Controller/Driver
Newport's MM3000-OPT is a self-contained stand-alone motion controller/driver that can be used for many types of precision automation in multiple-axis applications. The MM3000-OPT has all the functions necessary to operate four separate axes (or any other number) using either stepper motors or dc servo motors; all within one chassis. It will allow for complex point-to-point motion on all axes without needing a continuous computer interface, providing a self-sufficient method for automating your process. The MM3000-OPT was designed to handle the demands of the most extreme environments. It comes in two formats: tabletop and rack mount to accommodate different laboratory and industrial settings.
Hardware features of the controller include a front panel with controls specific to each axis (i.e., JOG, RESET, and HOME) along with a large LCD alphanumeric display for clear feedback on the status of the controller. Connectors are provided for RS-232C and IEEE-488 interfaces for seamless communication between the controller and a computer, as well as for integration into a network of instruments. The controller provides sufficient power to handle servo motors with current ratings from 0.1 to 10 amps and stepper motors with micro-step resolutions up to 100x for very smooth and accurate motion. In addition to these basic capabilities, advanced features are included such as linear error compensation, backlash correction, and automatic motor power off for enhanced position accuracy and system reliability.
Users program the Newport MM3000-OPT using over 100 mnemonic commands in a comprehensive instruction set that allows users to define and save complex motion sequences in the non-volatile memory of the unit. Therefore, the Motion Controller/Driver is well-suited to applications involving the use of automated motion control, such as automated optical alignment, laser micro-ablation, scanning microscopy, and semiconductor wafer inspection. Users may enhance the functionality of their MM3000-OPT by adding optional accessories such as a handheld keypad and/or a multi-axis joystick to provide additional control and programming capabilities while not connected to a host computer. The Newport MM3000-OPT has a comprehensive set of features and provides compatibility with a broad range of mechanical systems; as such, it serves as a fundamental component of systems requiring reliable and repeatable multi-axis motion coordination.
