Pickering 40-749-521 RF Multiplexer Module
Pickering’s model number 40-749-521 is a quad 4-to-1 RF multiplexer that was created for high precision and fast signal routing in Automated Test Equipment (ATE), as well as other automated test and measurement systems. Each of the 4 independent multiplexers on this 40-749-521 model can switch one common output among 4 different input channels. The multiplexer model is designed for use in automated test and measurement equipment and is built with SMA coaxial connectors and a 50 Ω impedance design that allows it to support frequencies up to 1 GHz.
The 40-749-521 is used to dynamically route signals from the DUTs (Devices Under Test) to and from the instruments being used in the testing process in industrial automation and R&D environments. Common uses for the multiplexer include connecting and disconnecting signals to and from oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and signal generators in ATE systems; switching tributaries in telecommunications systems; routing video/audio signals in broadcast systems; and routing high-speed logic signals.
The 40-749-521 provides a single point for all of the cabling required in an ATE system that could otherwise be complicated and prone to errors in connection due to numerous cables. The consolidation of cabling into a single programmable switching matrix reduces the amount of manual intervention and potential errors in the cabling connections.
The reliability of the multiplexer is ensured through its electrical performance. It has low insertion loss and good Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR). The low insertion loss and VSWR will reduce the degradation of the signal throughout its operational range. The 40-749-521 also provides high isolation between adjacent channels and banks of multiplexers. The high isolation prevents crosstalk between the adjacent channels and multiplexer banks. Crosstalk is a major concern when using multiple-channel equipment because it can cause errors in measurement data. The multiplexer module uses long-life electromechanical relays that are reliable for many switching cycles and supports a full suite of software drivers that allow the user to easily integrate the module into their existing development environment. These software drivers enable seamless operation of the module in both PXI and LXI modular chassis platforms.
