Pickering 40-785B-522-TE Microwave Multiplexer Module
The Pickering 40-785B-522-TE, is a dual-bank, terminated Microwave Multiplexer Module for use in sophisticated RF & Microwave Signal Routing in Automated Test Systems. Each bank has six independent channels that are internally terminated with a 50-ohm termination. As a remote mountable module, the 40-785B-522-TE connects to a single slot controller in a PXI chassis using the supplied interface cables. In doing so, the RF switching elements can be placed near the UUT (Unit Under Test) and other instrumentation, thereby reducing cable lengths and minimizing signal attenuation.
This 40-785B-522-TE multiplexer was engineered to support high-frequency applications and provides a very large bandwidth from DC up to 50 GHz with the use of SMA-2.4 connectors to help ensure the signal integrity of the RF signals being routed through the multiplexer. A termination design allows for the stability of the system to be maintained, as there will always be a matched impedance presented to the system when an unselected channel is activated, and is critical for precision measurements to be made. The module also has excellent isolation and low insertion loss characteristics over the entire operating bandwidth of the multiplexer; both of these characteristics are critical for maintaining accuracy in complex switching networks. Blue LEDs are integrated into the module for visual confirmation of the active RF path.
The primary application for this multiplexer is for test and measurement systems where the automatic connection of multiple RF sources, sensors, or antennas is required to connect to a single analyzer or receiver. Other applications include component testing, signal surveillance, and production test systems in aerospace, defense, telecommunications, etc., all of which require a high-performance switching matrix to be built in order to increase the flexibility and throughput of the system. The ability to place the microwave relays remotely from the analyzer/receiver allows for cleaner system layouts and improves the overall measurement fidelity, and therefore makes the 40-785B-522-TE a key component in advanced PXI-based test platforms.
