Pickering 40-166-001 PXI Power Relay Module
Pickering's model 40-166-001 is a very strong PXI module that is specifically designed for high current switching in automated test systems. This unit has ten independent single-pole single-throw (SPST) relays that can handle large amounts of electrical load. They can handle maximums of 30 amperes and 480 volts AC or 300 volts DC, which provides this unit with an excellent amount of versatility and strength in the application of high-power switching. The module uses electromechanical relays with silver tin oxide contacts; these types of contacts are chosen for the reliability and the consistency they provide when used in high-power applications.
The 40-166-001 power relay module is a critical element in many forms of industrial automation, test stands, and process control systems in which the dependable and reliable switching of large AC or DC loads is required. The main purpose of this module is to control large external elements of a circuit (contactors, solenoids, and motors) or to directly control and regulate the mains voltage and high DC current flows through them. The ability of the module to handle a high density of 30 amperes of switching makes it applicable for use in burn-in racks, power supply testing, and any other type of test equipment that requires the distribution of a lot of power to multiple DUTs. The fact that the module integrates seamlessly into the PXI platform enables users to have a complete and fully functional, modular, chassis-based test system that can be easily controlled and programmed to perform precisely sequenced high-power tests on its DUTs.
To connect to the outside world, the 40-166-001 uses a 20-pin Positronic Scorpion connector, which includes a keying system that is specific to 30A versions of the module so that the user will only be able to correctly mate the module to the proper cable. This feature adds additional safety to the overall system by preventing incorrect mating of cables to the module that may result in a short or other unsafe condition. The 40-166-001 is supported by a full software suite that includes both VISA and IVI drivers so that it can work with most of the development software platforms that are currently available, such as LabVIEW, TestStand, and MATLAB. This provides the engineer with a quick and easy way to develop and implement reliable test procedures for high-power applications.
