Pickering 40-726A-751-L RF Coaxial Matrix
The Pickering 40-726A-751-L is a 12x8 RF coaxial matrix module for high-frequency signal switching for telecom, video switching, and RF test systems. The 75 Ω version allows signals up to 250 MHz frequencies, making it suitable for scenarios where the source and load circuits expect impedance-matched signals (i.e., broadcast video or legacy telecommunication systems). The product features front-panel SMB connectors with Y-axis loop-thru that is built-in to the design, along with eight 40-cm SMB flying leads. When multiple Pickering matrix modules are cascaded, they can be installed as part of the same matrix configuration. Eight 40-726A-751-L modules can have a total of 96x8 matrix with a collective bandwidth of over 200 MHz.
The Pickering 40-726A-751-L uses ruthenium-sputtered reed relays to ensure contact resistance is stable as specified by the manufacturer, and gives the matrix a guaranteed life expectancy of more than 10^9 operations under normal RF signal loads. The matrix has isolation switches on all matrix X and Y connectors that disconnect the matrix from the test fixture. Isolated matrices yield a lower noise floor for RF testing, and significantly reduce cross-talk from the utilization of the same matrix in messages like the ITA-TEST. In terms of RF performance, insertion loss remains at or below 3 dB and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) measurements at 100 MHz remain at or below 3:1.
The module can be mounted in a PXI or LXI chassis, and can integrate with automated test systems using standardized drivers: VISA and IVI. The module occupies a single slot in a 3U PXI chassis. Both testing reliability and general reliability are maintained between an ambient temperature of 0°C to +55°C. The requirement of installed flying leads offers arrangement flexibility for installation in an expandable, cat-5 cable system through euro-cage style cabling. The flying lead or loop-thru style design allows the operator to expand the switch matrix arrangement with additional modules without the need to install additional cabling from the modules to the connecting point to the other fixtures within the rack, supporting up to 300 MHz bandwidth and coherence of signal with the loop-thru style.
