Pickering 40-749-511 Quad 4:1 RF Multiplexer
The Pickering 40-749-511 is designed to route RF signals in a test or measurement system as a quad RF multiplexer with four RF channels. This 50 Ω module is equipped with a total of 20 SMB coaxial connectors, providing a convenient way to integrate with other devices such as oscilloscopes, analyzers, or RF generators. This multiplexer is an excellent choice for designing and testing fixtures or switching applications for telecom, video, or audio signal applications. With an operational frequency range of DC to 1 GHz, the 40-749-511 has typical insertion loss values of less than 0.9 dB at 500 MHz (and 1.5 dB at 1 GHz). Insertion loss is an important consideration for RF circuit design/testing to avoid degrading the signal. RF switching and multiplexing typically involve more degradation when unexpected crosstalk occurs between sources, which is why in a RF test system isolation and crosstalk values are important. The module has typical isolation of more than 45 dB at 500 MHz and crosstalk of less than 52 dB at 500 MHz.
The multiplexer is simple to integrate into a any PXI or LXI chassis, taking up one of the 3U PXI slots and supports standard PXI software environments out of the box with included VISA drivers, IVI drivers, and kernel drivers, for use in Microsoft Windows. The compact design simplifies cabling, while the connectors are the same types needed by the other components in the system, making it easy for systems where you need to limit cable types. The multiplexer can handle up to 10 Watts of RF power and 30 V DC, with a 5 ms typical switching speed, making this a good choice for test systems that can be automated and need fast rerouting of signals.
The RF multiplexer supports a wide variety of applications, including RF signal distribution, component testing for RF circuits, and logic switching for high frequency. The performance metrics are also very strict, such as ensuring that VSWR is less than 1.7:1 at 500 MHz and meets CE safety and EMC standards.
