Pickering 40-310-101 High Voltage Relay Module
Pickering’s 40-310-101 is a PXI-based, 16-channel SPST, 3U, single-slot relay module that uses high-voltage reed relays to switch high-voltage DC/AC signals. The PXI-40-310-101 is a small 1-slot module designed to provide a high level of voltage switching performance in the most demanding Automated Test Systems (ATS). The 40-310-101 is designed to be compatible with PXI/PXIe/LXI chassis, providing a ruggedized and reliable means of switching high-voltage signals in industrial and laboratory settings.
The 40-310-101 supports both cold switching and hot switching. In the case of hot switching, the module has a maximum load voltage of 750 Vdc/750 Vac peak and a maximum power dissipation of 10 watts. In the case of cold switching, where voltage is applied after relay closure, the relay module will have a working voltage of 750 Vdc with a typical capability of 1000 Vac peak. The High-Voltage Reed Relays used in the 40-310-101 were specifically designed by Pickering Electronics to provide a low path resistance of < 3 Ω and an off-path resistance of > 10 GΩ. The RFI suppression circuits built into the module are critical in protecting relay contacts during hot switching and in controlling voltage transients, which will extend the life of the relay. The typical relay operate time is 500 μsec. This fast operation time allows for rapid test sequencing.
Common applications for the 40-310-101 include electrical isolation and breakdown testing. These types of tests include but are not limited to validating the insulation of printed circuit boards, testing cable harnesses, characterizing semiconductor devices, and qualifying relays. Due to its design, the module minimizes crosstalk in systems incorporating sensitive instrumentation and provides a safe environment. Comprehensive software drivers are available for Windows and Linux platforms, including IVI and VISA compatibility, to enable development in environments such as LabVIEW, Python, and C#. As a result, this module is a highly versatile element for developing automated test equipment focused on quality assurance and research in electronics manufacturing and power systems.
