Pickering 40-290-021-S14 Programmable Resistor Module
Pickering's 40-290-021-S14 is an ultra-high precision programmable resistor (PXI) module designed for use on automated test systems and measurement equipment. The 40-290-021-S14 is a two-channel 16-bit resolution resistor, allowing users to simulate resistor values between 0 Ω and 32,767.5 Ω with .5 Ω step sizes. As such, the 40-290-021-S14 can be used as part of a hardware-in-the-loop test setup to emulate sensor output, transducer input, and other resistive components within a test environment. In many cases, this will be necessary to validate the performance and accuracy of control systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition equipment without having to physically attach a sensor to each device under test.
Each resistor channel of the 40-290-021-S14 uses a ruthenium reed relay network to provide extremely long-lasting switching life and low contact resistance variation over time. Additionally, the Resistor Module has a non-volatile E2PROM memory that contains the specific calibration information for each resistor in the chain. A four-wire Kelvin connection is provided through the micro-D connector on the front panel to eliminate lead and contact resistance effects in measurements. Therefore, the 40-290-021-S14 is well-suited for use in all types of high-accuracy applications, including production line verification, R&D testing, and calibration station work.
As part of a PXI/CompactPCI 3U chassis, the 40-290-021-S14 represents a compact and modular method for adding to the capabilities of existing test systems. The module also has very fast switching speeds, greater than 1,000 value changes per second, which allows for dynamic testing of devices at rates previously unavailable. The Programmable Resistor Module is supported by comprehensive software drivers for Windows and several popular development environments, providing engineers with a versatile and powerful tool to quickly create dependable and repeatable automatic test methods that greatly reduce development cycle times while increasing diagnostic accuracy.
