Spirent AT-9025 ATM SmartCard

The Spirent AT-9025 ATM 25 Mbps 1-port SmartCard is made for generating, monitoring, and testing high-performance Asynchronous Transfer Mode-ATM networks. The major usage of the equipment in evaluating network devices ranges from edge devices and ATM-to-LAN internetworking equipment to xDSL devices. Its applications span into performance testing on LAN-to-ATM connectivity and ATM backbone analysis, among other scenarios.

With complete full-duplex, frame-level testing, the AT-9025 supports high-speed, wire-rate tests that enhance reliability in performance assessment. It thus enables users of this SmartCard to simulate, measure, and analyze a wide range of network behaviors, including cell latency, throughput, and call setup times. It supports as many as 8.39 million switched virtual connections per port in accordance with the ATM Forum UNI specification. This provides comprehensive performance benchmarking across up to 335.54 million SVCs with a comprehensive ATM test suite using 40 ports. This card is integrated with SmartBits' SmartSignaling application to support UNI 3.0, 3.1, and 4.0 signaling standards for call setup and teardown rate measurements that can be efficiently done for the number of calls handled. The AT-9025 can support 800 calls per second per port call setup rates, which in turn delivers 32,000 calls per second across a typical 40-port test configuration.

In addition to the performance metrics, the AT-9025 supports frame encapsulation testing for LAN Emulation, LLC/SNAP, Classical IP, and PPP per AAL5, per ATM standards, allowing users to generate custom frame sizes at full line rates. Among the statistics measured within the ATM layer of the card are HEC errored cells, transmitted and received cells, symbol errors, and frame loss for accurate error detection and monitoring. The users can define their own AAL5 frame payload types for special test scenarios; the predefined formats include LANE, Classical IP, and proprietary formats.

The AT-9002 has an RJ-45 interface and is designed to fit into either an SMB-200 or SMB-2000 chassis slot. It requires an IBM-compatible PC running Windows 98/2000/NT. Compatibility with the existing SmartBits applications, such as SmartLib and SmartWindow, extends the functionality of the test suite and allows for flexible configuration management.
