Tektronix TDS3032 Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope
This Tektronix TDS3032 is a digital phosphor oscilloscope (DPO) with two input channels and is used for analyzing signals in various applications like power supplies, digital system development and industrial automation. The DPO has an operating bandwidth of 300 MHz and sampling rates of 2.5 GS/s per channel, so the oscilloscope captures fast transient and complex waveform signals accurately. Digital phosphor technology provides a real-time display that uses intensity to represent how many times each point on the screen occurs over time. Using this type of display allows engineers to more easily identify and debug the intermittent problems that occur due to "glitches" and "timing jitter" that are typically difficult to see when using a traditional oscilloscope.
User efficiency was also an important consideration in the design of this unit. A full VGA color LCD is used for the display of the input signal, and a QuickMenu interface has been provided to allow the user rapid access to most functions. In addition to the QuickMenu, the unit includes 21 pre-programmed measurement types, such as rise time, frequency, and pulse width, and allows for simultaneous display of up to four measured parameters. Advanced triggering options, including glitch and pulse-width triggering, are included and provide the ability to easily capture a specific event occurring within a circuit. Data may be stored directly from the unit via a built-in floppy disk drive and printed directly via a Centronics parallel printer port. In addition to being portable enough to be taken to the production line or service bench, the unit is designed to be highly configurable.
The TDS3032 is also designed to be modular for performing application-specific tasks. Users may purchase additional application modules that will enhance the oscilloscope's capabilities to include telecommunications mask testing for meeting industry standards and Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs) for performing advanced frequency-domain analysis. The oscilloscope is also compatible with a wide variety of Tektronix active, differential and current probes, which provide automatic scaling and unit readout. Therefore, the Tektronix TDS3032 is a flexible and useful tool for engineers and technicians who need to debug, validate and characterize electronic systems.
