National Instruments/NH Research NHR-9430 AC/DC Load System Series
The NHR-9430 from NH Research (an NI brand) is a 4-quadrant AC/DC load device used to evaluate, test, and measure AC/DC power products. Depending on power requirements, the hardware is available in different sizes, ranging from 4 kW to 96 kW. The smaller 4 kW to 12 kW units are 9U rack-mountable modules, while the larger models (from 24 kW up to 96 kW) are housed in large, pre-wired cabinets.
The NHR-9430 series offers single, split, or three-phase I/O. Because of its efficiency, the NHR-9430 may be used for testing electric vehicle (EV) systems, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) equipment, grid utilities, and grid-tied solar inverters.
The hardware includes terminal blocks for connecting to the electrical grid and the unit-under-test, cooling fans, hardware circuit breakers, emergency-off switches, and physical interlock connections. The 4 kW model weighs 145 lbs; the 8 kW model weighs 150 lbs, and the 12 kW model weighs 1,560 lbs for the 96 kW double-cabinet model.
National Instruments provides PC-based software, NI NHR-9400 Panel, that allows users to connect to the NHR-9430 hardware over a LAN network and remotely control the device, execute test macros, log SCPI communication, and view simulated oscilloscope outputs. The NHR-9430 has an integrated waveform digitizer that provides power analysis and eliminates the need for integrating extra measurement equipment.
For automated testing, the hardware can be controlled using external programming environments. It is compatible with NI's LabVIEW and supports SCPI commands via LAN or VXI-11 protocols. For modules 12 kW and smaller, users must jumper pins 1 and 2 of the emergency stop connector with a wire or wire it to a physical emergency stop switch. Systems larger than 12 kW come with an emergency stop switch already mounted and pre-wired on the cabinet. The operating temperature range for the NI NHR-9430 is 0°C to 35°C.
