TDK Lambda GEN8-180 Programmable DC Power Supply
The TDK Lambda GEN8-180 Programmable DC Power Supply is constructed in a 1U rack mount enclosure with a width of 422.8 mm and a depth of 432.8 mm. The unit height measures 43.6 mm nominal and the total weight is approximately 8500 g. It integrates RS-232 and RS-485 serial communication interfaces for remote operation, and has analog programming inputs that are user selectable between 0 – 5 V and 0 – 10 V ranges giving flexible integration with external control systems. The model delivers a rated DC output of 8 Vdc at 180 A with a maximum continuous power output of 1440 W. The unit accepts a wide universal AC input voltage range from 85 to 265 Vac. The input frequency compatibility spans 47 to 63 Hz making it suitable across varied global power grid standards.
The DC Power Supply includes a Last Setting memory function that retains output parameters on power cycle without requiring battery backup. The over voltage protection is set directly on the front panel voltage display ensuring precise and repeatable threshold configuration. A current limit foldback function is built in to protect the connected load from damaging current transients. The safe Start can be enabled so the unit initializes with the output in the off state before ramping to set values. The output voltage on the GEN8-180 is continuously programmable from 0 to 8 Vdc and output current is adjustable between 0 and 180 A. At rated output power and 100/200Vac input, the unit achieves a power factor of 0.99. The typical full load efficiency is rated at 81 % making it a reliable choice for sustained high power operation. The voltage ripple noise is suppressed to 0.008 Vrms and current ripple noise to 0.36 Arms across 5 Hz to 1 MHz.
Then high linearity in both voltage and current modes allows the GEN8-180 Programmable DC Power Supply to serve applications requiring stable and accurate output regulation. These include laser diode power supply use cases and RF amplifier magnet supply scenarios. The design supports series operation of up to two units using external diodes with a combined maximum of 600 Vdc to chassis ground. The parallel operation via a single-wire connection enables scalable high-current configurations.
