Tektronix TAP1500 Active Probe
The Tektronix TAP1500 is designed as an active high-frequency probe for the most difficult electronic measurement applications. The single-ended probe interfaces directly into oscilloscopes that have the TekVPI interface to automatically scale units and control the probe using the oscilloscope display or remotely using GPIB/USB. As such, it is a critical tool used in the daily work of engineers designing high-speed digital systems, characterizing high-speed digital components and testing manufactured products, especially when signals are being analyzed that swing +/- 16 volts. The major task of the TAP1500 is to acquire signal information from a circuit under test with as little disruption as possible.
One major benefit of the TAP1500 is the superior electrical performance characteristics of the probe. The Probe has a bandwidth of 1.5 GHz and a rise time of less than 267 picoseconds. With an input capacitance of less than 1 pF and an input impedance of 1 MΩ, the probe has very little effect on the circuit it is measuring and will preserve the signal integrity, allowing for high-accuracy measurements at high-speed nodes without distorting the measured waveform. The TAP1500 has a dynamic range of -8 to +8 volts and a DC offset range of +/-10 volts, providing the user with a large number of options for signal conditioning. The probe was designed to be durable and reliable in many different operating conditions.
The TAP1500 is supplied with a variety of tools for connecting to a wide variety of devices. The user receives several ground leads of different lengths, a Y-lead adapter, color-coded clips, and solderable probe tips. For the SMD (surface mount device) connections, which can be a challenge, the users also receive micro-circuit test tips, right-angle square pin adapters, and ground adapters to allow the user to measure devices with pitches as small as 0.5mm. The compact size of the probe head provides the user with better access to dense packaging and makes the TAP1500 a complete solution for analyzing signal integrity in the research, development, and validation process in the electronics industry.
