Aeroflex 3020C PXI Digital RF Signal Generator
The Aeroflex 3020C is a high-performance, precision digital RF signal generator contained within a single, 3U PXI card. It was specifically developed for use as part of automated test systems and can generate RF signals with frequencies ranging from 1 MHz to 3 GHz (usable down to 100 kHz). The 3020C operates in tandem with one of the 3010 or 3011 series RF synthesizer modules that provide a low phase noise local oscillator signal. A primary function of the 3020C is to generate and modulate RF signals at varying levels of output power (-120 dBm to +5 dBm).
A major aspect of this module's capabilities are its modulation characteristics. The 3020C supports both internal analog amplitude (AM) and frequency (FM) modulation, as well as advanced digital InPhase/Quadrature (IQ) vector modulation that have bandwidths reaching up to 90 MHz. These RF signals are generated by an on-board dual-channel AWG (Arbitrary Waveform Generator), which has considerable built-in memory, and can be expanded using additional options. As such, for creating complex waveforms, the user may create their own waveform using the optional IQCreator software, which includes templates for a variety of wireless communication protocols including GSM, CDMA, WLAN, and WiMAX. Additionally, users can create multi-carrier and custom waveforms. The user may also utilize the input ports of the AWG to accept external digital I/Q information for use in various test applications.
The 3020C is a critical tool for researchers and developers in addition to manufacturers of wireless equipment and systems. The module is suitable for use in verifying the performance of devices and components used in cellular wireless communication systems, wireless data networks, and broadcast systems. The module's List Mode function enables users to rapidly switch between frequencies and power levels, thereby greatly increasing how efficient the test sequences are that are used in production line testing and receiver alignment. The use of a PXI platform for the 3020C, provides a compact, cost effective approach to increasing the measurement speed and facilitating the system's integration and expansion as needed, thus making it a fundamental component of modern RF test and measurement architectures.
