JTAG Technologies JT 37x7/TSI DataBlaster Boundary-Scan Controller Series
Boundary-scan controllers, such as the JT 37x7/TSI series, are used for board testing, debugging, and device programming in engineering development and factory environments. Specific uses for the controllers may include printed circuit board and device testing, in-system programming, manufacturing, and specialized digital, analog, and frequency measurements.
All JT 37x7/TSI units are supplied with a QuadPod (JT 2147) signal conditioning module that connects to the main unit via a high-density, shielded 50-way cable. The QuadPod contains a transceiver and four removable test access port (TAP) pods that handle application-specific signals like flash memory auto-write, ready/busy, and static I/O lines for power supply switching or device mode selection.
Each controller in this series also has three interface ports—USB, FireWire, and Ethernet—which allow them to be controlled by a PC or another computer system. The controllers also include a 12V 2A wall power supply unit (PSU) that uses a standard 4mm connection jack.
The three controllers in the series—the JT 3707/TSI, JT 3717/TSI, and JT 3727/TSI, described below—differ primarily based on their internal memory capacity for handling data blocks. They differ in their built-in internal FIFO buffer size, which supports in-system programming of Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs) and flash memories:
JT 3707/TSI: 0 Mbits internal FIFO buffer
This is the base-level model for board testing and small data block programming.
JT 3717/TSI: 64 Mbits internal FIFO buffer
This is the mid-range model suitable for manufacturing and debugging.
JT 3727/TSI: 128 Mbits internal FIFO buffer
This is the highest-capacity model intended for medium- to high-volume manufacturing.
The controller has an internal source test clock (TCK) that ranges from 1 kHz to 40 MHz. The ability to run up to 40 MHz allows the controllers to maintain fast throughput, making them capable of efficiently testing modern printed circuit boards (PCBs) and devices. For custom Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems in factory environments, the JT 37x7/TSI can be paired with specialized pods, such as the JT 2147/BO (breakout), instead of the standard desktop QuadPod.
