Keysight/Agilent DAQM902A Multiplexer Module for DAQ970A and DAQ973A
The Keysight DAQM902A is a reed-based multiplexer (MUX) designed for use with DAQ970A & DAQ973A mainframes, which can rapidly scan up to 250 channels/sec. There are 16 channels, and each can be set up as either a 2-wire input or paired together to create a 4-wire Kelvin configuration. When used in an interleaved configuration, there will be 8 differential channels created from these pairings.
In addition to being able to configure each channel individually, the MUX design allows users to have one device capable of handling multiple types of sensors (thermocouples, RTD's, etc.) and voltage sources all at once. The user does not need to use external dividers because of this capability. The reliability and quick settling time of the reeds in the DAQM902A make it ideal for use in automated testing and data logging applications. Another benefit of using a reed-type MUX is that they inherently provide good isolation between channels to help eliminate crosstalk issues in densely configured wiring.
When measuring current, the user must install an external shunt resistor on the DAQM902A. Once installed, the mainframe’s built-in digital multimeter (DMM) measures the voltage drop across the resistor to determine the measured current. The low thermal EMF characteristics of the relay contacts allow accurate readings to be made even if there are a large number of channels being switched simultaneously.
To facilitate easier installation, the DAQM902A is plug-and-play compatible with any available slot on the DAQ970A or DAQ973A mainframes. The DAQM902A shares space with other modules such as analog-digital converters, counter modules, and digital I/O modules in order to create a comprehensive test system. One of the benefits of mixing both two-wire and four-wire channels on the same MUX is that the system designer has fewer cables to deal with and reduced instrumentation costs.
Applications include automated production testing, battery stack monitoring, power supply verification, multi-channel temperature profiling, etc. Rapid scan speeds of 250 ch/sec enable fast-changing signals across many points to be captured accurately. Additionally, the maximum input rating of 300V provides safety margin above nominal levels.
High-density multiplexing combined with fast scanning rates reduces the number of instruments needed in a system, shortens test times, and simplifies cabling requirements. As a result, system designers find the flexibility offered by dynamic interchangeability between different sensor types as well as the ability to easily add new channels as a major advantage. Overall, the Keysight DAQM902A provides high-density and scalable data acquisition capabilities necessary for challenging industrial environments.
