Keysight/Agilent DAQM908A Single-Ended Multiplexer Module for DAQ970A and DAQ973A

The Keysight DAQM908A is an independent single-ended multiplexer card that was specifically developed for use in both the DAQ970A and DAQ973A data acquisition systems. It has forty-one wire inputs (common low) for this purpose and makes it ideal for use in applications where a common low point exists among the individual input signals (i.e., battery testing, component characterization, and general benchtop testing).

All of the lower connections on the module are connected together internally and electrically isolated from the earth ground; therefore, the common point will be able to float to 300 volts. The maximum scan speed possible for the module is 100 channels/second; therefore, you can quickly gather data from many different test points simultaneously. Due to the fact that the module uses armature relay switching, it is well suited for switching DC and low-frequency AC signals.

To provide for measurement flexibility, the Keysight DAQM908A supports all of the two-wire internal measurements except current. These measurements include DC and AC voltage, resistance, frequency, and period. In addition to these types of measurements, if you are using either a two-wire RTD or thermistor sensor, then you may measure the temperature. Thermocouples, however, cannot be measured since they are a three-wire type of sensor and would require a three-wire connection. Each of the channels on the Keysight DAQM908A has been rated to handle up to 300 volts between the input and the low (ground), so they are capable of floating measurements where the common point does not exist at earth ground. Additionally, once plugged into either of the DAQ970A or DAQ973A mainframes, the Keysight DAQM908A automatically configures its measurement range based upon the configuration of the mainframe.

Examples of how the Keysight DAQM908A is commonly deployed include in-line production testing of batteries and their individual cell voltages. As previously mentioned, each cell voltage tap shares a common return point. High channel counts allow for rapid screening of passive components without having to recable. Also, because the low connection is electrically isolated from earth ground, it allows for in-circuit testing where the device under test is operating above ground. The DAQM908A represents a cost-effective alternative for those who need a larger number of one-wire switches than what is offered by most two-wire switch cards.
