Keysight/Agilent 34902A 16-Channel Multiplexer Module for 34970A/34972A
The 34902A Multiplexer Module from Keysight/Agilent has been designed specifically to be used with the Keysight 34970A Data Acquisition Mainframe and the Keysight 34972A Data Acquisition Mainframe. It can support many different applications, including automated testing, production verification, and real-time data logging of information from various sensors found in standard industrial and laboratory environments. This Multiplexer Module utilizes reed relay switching to obtain a scanning speed of 250 channels per second at an input capacity of 16 channels. The design allows it to have two-wire and four-wire measurement capability on the same printed circuit board (PCB), which means that engineers can easily switch between measuring voltages, resistances, or thermocouples using a single module. This feature enables users to integrate systems together and also significantly reduce total test time.
This Keysight/Agilent 34902A module contains 16 two-wire inputs capable of being switched at voltages up to 300V. As stated previously, this module also has the ability to be used in a four-wire configuration, eliminating lead resistance errors when obtaining low-resistance readings. When using this module to obtain current readings, users must provide their own external shunt resistor that connects the input terminal leads together. Additionally, the module comes equipped with an onboard thermocouple reference junction for precision cold-junction compensation, permitting engineers to connect directly to the thermocouple connection(s) for temperature monitoring. This flexibility of scanning rates and input selection permits a variety of signals (milliamp loops/RTDs etc.) to be processed in a single automated scan routine.
In addition to the actual multiplexer board, each shipment will include a functional test report verifying proper operation. Engineers working in the field of industrial automation will typically employ this module as part of a larger test station used to evaluate manufactured parts, in an environmental chamber evaluating product performance, and in equipment used to characterize components for manufacturing requirements, due to its need to rapidly cycle through channels and allow for short settling times to improve total throughput. Due to its unique feature of allowing simultaneous two-wire and four-wire scanning on a single card, this module enables engineers to minimize hardware changes required to run the test program and maximize the potential of the host mainframe. Therefore, the 34902A provides an efficient means to create streamlined Quality Assurance processes and Product Control work flows. Its reed relay switching mechanism provides reliable long term operation; however, by providing a reference junction on the module itself, engineers are able to reduce their requirement for additional accessories needed to accurately monitor temperature.
