Keysight/Agilent 34939A 64-Channel General Purpose Switch for 34980A
The Keysight/Agilent 34939A is a dedicated add-on unit for the Keysight 34980A multichannel programmable switch/mainframe unit. It contains 64 independent form "A" (single pole/single throw) SPST relays in a single enclosure. These relays can be switched at rates of up to 1 ampere and carry up to 2 amperes with contact ratings of 100 volts and 60 watts. The relays are connected via an industry-standard 78-pin DB-25D connector. This connector permits the use of commercially available cable assemblies, as well as standard DB-25D connectors and screw-terminal adapter blocks (such as the Keysight 34939T), and mass-interconnect systems (such as the Keysight Y1137A, Y1138A, and Y1140A). The resulting connection simplifies rack-to-rack cabling and eliminates the need for custom wiring solutions.
In industrial automation and functional test applications, the Keysight 34939A is especially useful when you need to have multiple independent relay closures instead of using matrixed switches. Some examples of how the General Purpose Switch may be used are turning power "on" or "off" to items being tested, providing drive signals for indicator lamps and/or status indicators, and providing an activation signal for other external power relays/solenoids. Because there are no specified frequency limitations or speed limitations, the 34939A can be used to activate DC and low-frequency AC signals. In addition to increasing reliability by reducing the number of modules needed per mainframe, high-channel density also simplifies the design process and reduces the complexity associated with connecting your various modules together.
Once installed within a 34980A mainframe, the 34939A from Keysight/Agilent becomes a very versatile tool for many types of automated tests, including burn-in applications, power-cycling components, and controlling additional test equipment. Due to its ability to operate each relay independently from one another, the General Purpose Switch can simultaneously provide an activation signal to up to 64 different loads. The SPST configuration provided by the 34939A eliminates the loss associated with cross-point connections of matrix cards. Therefore, if you're looking for a high-density general-purpose switching solution that's reliable for both power-routing and/or signal-conditioning in production-test/lab automation systems, then the Keysight 34939A is a good choice.
