Keysight/Agilent 34942A Quad 1x4 Multiplexer Module for 34980A
Designed to function in conjunction with the 34980A multifunction switch/measure unit, Keysight's 34942A (formerly from Agilent) is a quad 1x4 RF multiplexer module utilizing a 75 ohms characteristic impedance. Each bank of this module consists of three form C latching relays per bank. Once a relay closes or opens, the positions are held in place by a magnetic holding force so no additional power is required to maintain the position. Each bank contains a total of six miniature sma connectors. This allows for up to sixteen channels at an input voltage and current of up to 30 volts dc and .5 amperes respectively. Due to its design features, the Keysight 34942A RF multiplexer provides low insertion loss of only .6 decibels, a vswr less than 1.35 and greater than sixty decibel's channel isolation. These specifications provide for clean, bidirectional signal flow when used in broadband applications.
As part of the Keysight/Agilent industrial automation and test systems, the 34942A is used to route high frequency signals to spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and other measurement devices. Since there are independent banks, they are electrically isolated from each other and from the main frame chassis. Elimination of ground loops in these type of systems will result in better dynamic range performance. The combination of using independent banks and latching relay technology results in lower power consumption and reduced heat generated due to long periods of automated testing. The use of the Keysight 34942A module along with the Keysight 34980A mainframe provides engineers with the ability to create large numbers of highly dense signal switching configurations for R&D validation, production testing and characterization of communications equipment while maintaining the highest degree of measurement accuracy.
Switching capacity may be easily expanded as multiple banks may be connected together. In addition, through the connection of multiple banks into a single Multiplexer Module, engineers may configure up to ninety-seven RF channels to create a very large multiplexer providing a great deal of flexibility. The 34942A module also maintains constant seventy-five ohm signal integrity over its entire operating band width of 1.5 GHz. Therefore, it is well suited for such applications as video distribution and cable infrastructure testing as well as many other precise RF applications.
