NH Research's 9410-96 Regenerative Grid Simulator is a flexible, four-quadrant AC/DC power supply intended for grid-tied device testing, such as PV inverters. It can function as a source or a regenerative sink, effectively bringing power back into the grid instead of releasing it as heat. With scalable power from 4kW (single-phase) to 96kW (three-phase), this unit offers numerous phase outputs (1, 2, or 3 phases). It can also handle AC frequencies ranging from 30 to 100 Hz, with an extension up to 880 Hz.
The AC output of the NHR 9410-96 provides a maximum power rating of 252kVA, or 96kW, with current ranges of up to 240A per phase for three-phase applications and 720A per phase for single-phase applications. It has 96kW of DC output and a maximum of 720A system-wide. It is perfect for extensive testing scenarios because of its strong reactive power capabilities, which keeps it operating at full true power over a wide voltage range even in the presence of harmonic circumstances or low power factors. As a result, users can test equipment without having to enlarge the simulator to accommodate different power factors.
Waveform digitizers of the NHR 9410-96's advanced digital measuring system capture voltage, current, and power data at a real-time rate of 1 MS/sec. It also simplifies the test setup by removing the requirement for extra instruments like power analyzers and oscilloscopes. With the help of the integrated waveform editing tools, users can simulate complex transient situations or phase leaps, generate non-sinusoidal voltages, and mimic line disturbances—all of which are crucial for compliance testing.
With the use of industry-standard drivers, the system may be customized through a built-in touch panel, PC-based software, and custom programming. Flexibility in integration is offered by the support for SCPI and VXI-11 protocols for communication via LAN. More than 25 safety mechanisms and programmable checks are included in the safety features to guarantee the security of the user, the testing environment, and the equipment. When a failure occurs, the NHR 9410-96 automatically disconnects from the grid or the unit being tested; a manual shutdown option is provided by the eStop button.
