Phoenix Contact FLKM-50 Termination Board
The Phoenix Contact FLKM-50 is an economical VARIOFACE terminal interface for programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and other industrial control system equipment. The FLKM-50 is available in multiple configurations, but all provide a 50-position flat ribbon cable connector on one end and a 50-position screw clamp connection field on the other end to accommodate the wiring of field devices such as sensors, actuators, etc., which connect to the PLC through the ribbon cable connector. The terminal interface can be mounted on either of two standard NS 32 or NS 35/7.5 DIN rails, thereby allowing users to create a clean and organized termination area between their PLC and the field devices they are controlling.
From an electrical standpoint, the FLKM-50 supports functional isolation for circuits up to 30 volts AC or 60 volts DC at a maximum current of 1 amp per channel. The terminal interface will accept a variety of conductors, both rigid and flexible wire sizes ranging from 0.2 mm² to 4 mm² (AWG 24 to AWG 12), and each connection has an M3 threaded stud that requires a specific torque value for reliable connections. The terminal interfaces are also specifically compatible with many of the Siemens S7-400 family of I/O cards, making it a convenient solution for adding or modifying connections to your existing PLC systems.
In practice, the FLKM-50 terminal interface reduces the amount of wiring within the cabinet by creating a central location where the user can transition from the typically fragile IDC connectors of their PLC to the more rugged field wiring. The terminal interface operates over a temperature range of -20°C to +50°C and is intended for use in areas with a minimum degree of environmental protection of IP54, although the terminal interface itself is rated at IP00. The FLKM-50 meets all applicable industry standards, including UKCA and cUL listings, and meets the requirements of the EU RoHS and REACH substance regulations. In addition, the terminal interface features a durable green Polyamide 6 housing that is suitable for harsh automation environments.
