Spirent 17-01502-08 Abacus PI Card
The Spirent 17-01502-08 Abacus PI Card is a Power and Interface subsystem to support the Abacus1 test system in making sure that power distribution and data routing are effected within the system reliably. The card is integral to the Abacus1, a fully integrated test system for complete protocol testing of telecommunications equipment; it powers the midplane in an Abacus1 rack to allow such a range of test functions as call generation, call switching, and even protocol analysis—all through an external PC interface loaded with Abacus software on Windows.
The 17-01502-08 is designed to be modular. Besides that, compatibility with multiple communication protocols such as analog, ISDN, T1, E1, GR-303, and SS7 are supported. The card thus can support the testing of PBXs, modems, VoIP systems, and other telecom infrastructure with reliable switching and traffic generation capabilities. It also allows the Abacus1 to function either as a call generator, that generates and terminates calls across diverse interfaces, or as a central office emulator, routing and switching calls between channels with high precision.
The Abacus PI Card plays a critical role in synchronizing the Abacus1 operation by offering audio monitoring through channels that allow real time audio analysis. Such a feature is critical in supporting high-fidelity audio applications that include the testing of voicemail, interactions with IVR, and the general assessment of voice quality from one end to the other. In addition, crystal oscillators have been implemented in the PI Card design in terms of providing clock synchronization; in the case of such digital circuits, this will be instrumental in ensuring timing accuracy to facilitate smooth interaction through interfaces with and from external systems in PCM or sine-wave signal formats.
The 17-01502-08 card is the building block of telecom test labs and is designed for the Abacus system expansions from Spirent, thus allowing scalability up to 1023 channels in one rack. Its flexible design enables interface cards on the Abacus to adapt to constantly changing test requirements and complex multi-protocol environments. By being incorporated in the Abacus1 test system, it provides central control for multiple test scenarios: call quality, capacity, transmission speed, and protocol compliance—making it an indispensable tool in true telecommunication tests.
