VIAVI RPM-2000 Monitoring Module for PathTrak

The VIAVI RPM-2000 is a high-speed, scalable spectrum analyzer designed to enhance the PathTrak Performance Monitoring System by detecting noise and ingress in cable networks. This 8-port module is optimized for noise and ingress analysis. It can scan all 8 ports 5 to 10 times per second, using an integral high-speed switch, DDS technology, and DSP hardware architecture. The module allows users to program measurements individually for each port and can detect and measure transient noise and bursts as short as 1 microsecond.

Resolution, video, and dwell time bandwidth settings can be adjusted, and parameters can be varied by frequency to scan with different resolutions or skip specific spans altogether. The RPM-2000 allows for real-time fast spectrum troubleshooting without interrupting active monitoring plans. The module’s VME-based cards are designed to be mounted into modular HCU control chassis (such as the HCU400 or HCU1500). Each RPM-2000 is an independent receiver, allowing users to scale by adding more modules without degrading overall system speed or performance.

The module’s frequency range is 5–65 MHz, and its dynamic range is -40 dBmV to 50 dBmV. Its resolution bandwidth is programmable to 30, 300, and 1000 kHz, and its video bandwidth is programmable to 10, 30, 100, 300, and 1000 kHz. The RPM-2000 has a spur-free dynamic range of 40 dB (typical). The accuracy level is +/- 2 dB on signal pulses > 10 microseconds and +/- 4 dB on signal pulses > 1 microsecond. The module’s operational temperature accuracy is +/- 2 dB at room temperature; +/- 3 dB drift at -50°C. The minimum noise burst measurable is <1 microsecond. Its dwell time is programmable from 1 microsecond to 100 milliseconds. The module monitors a maximum of 250 points of frequency resolution. Scan rates depend on settings but are typically 5 to 10 scans per second for every port.
