Keysight/Agilent E1428A 1 GS/s VXI Oscilloscope
The Keysight E1428A is a message-based VXI digitizing oscilloscope module designed for high-speed signal capture. It integrates two independent acquisition channels, each equipped with a dedicated 8-bit analog-to-digital converter. Both channels capture signals simultaneously at a maximum sample rate of 1 GSa/s without compromise. This configuration preserves timing correlation between both channels without any reduction in the sample rate.
The E1428A oscilloscope delivers a measurement bandwidth of DC to 250 MHz in both repetitive and single-shot modes. The waveform record length extends to 8,000 points in real-time mode and 500 points in repetitive mode. The module supports two simultaneous acquisition inputs and one dedicated external trigger input for system integration. Both onboard A/D converters operate at 1 GSa/s, which enables high-speed simultaneous acquisition on each channel.
The vertical sensitivity on the VXI oscilloscope covers a full-scale input range from 8 mV to 40 V. The DC vertical gain accuracy is specified at ± 1.25% of full scale, ensuring consistent and dependable measurements. The vertical resolution using the 8-bit A/D converter is rated at ± 0.4% of full scale. The resolution further improves to ± 0.1% accuracy when 10-bit precision is achieved through signal averaging techniques.
The input impedance on the oscilloscope is selectable between 1 MΩ and 50 Ω to suit different source impedances. The input capacitance is rated at 7 pF nominal with input coupling configurable for AC and DC operation. The maximum allowable input voltage is ± 250 V at 1 MΩ and 5 V rms at 50 Ω. The output BNC connectors provide probe compensation and calibration signals along with a dedicated trigger output.
The E1428A Oscilloscope supports sequential single-shot acquisition mode to enable rapid internal capture of successive waveforms. The onboard 1 MB shared RAM enables direct access to waveform data by the VXI controller and connected modules. The controller operates directly on data in shared RAM, eliminating the need for VXI bus transfers. This design reduces acquisition cycle time by saving up to 45 milliseconds of bus transfer time.
