Keysight/Agilent E1429B VXI Digitizer

The E1429B from Keysight (formerly from Agilent) is a VXI based 20 MSa/s 12 bit digitizer designed for high speed data acquisition. It houses two independent channels that sample simultaneously and route data to dedicated memory partitions. It supports real time data routing to both the Local Bus and the VME Bus simultaneously. The Local Bus and VME Bus receive this data concurrently according to their respective speed capabilities.

Each channel in the digitizer is equipped with a high performance 12 bit A/D converter operating at 20 MSa/s. The converter features a 50 Ω input port covering a voltage range from -1.0225 V to 1.0230 V. The nominal gain is specified at 2000 codes per volt with a nominal offset of zero. The 12 bit resolution including sign provides a precise digital representation of the measured analog input signal.

The digitizer offers 524,288 readings per channel of onboard memory equivalent to 512K per channel. The onboard memory is not dual ported and remains inaccessible for readout while data is being actively written. A battery backed nonvolatile memory system retains full data integrity for a nominal operational period of 4 years. Electronically disconnecting the battery extends the nominal shelf life of the stored data to 7 years.

The signal conditioning on the digitizer includes a selectable 2 pole Bessel filter with a nominal cutoff of 10 MHz. The analog bandwidth exceeds 50 MHz on the 1 V single ended input range with the filter disabled. For all other input ranges, the unfiltered analog bandwidth is specified above 40 MHz. A dedicated onboard register provides a low battery status indication for the nonvolatile memory system. The single ended BNC inputs on the E1429B accept DC coupled signals across four programmable voltage ranges. These ranges are ± 0.1 V, ± 0.2 V, ± 0.5 V and ± 1.0 V to support a wide variety of input signal amplitudes. The input impedance is programmable at either 50 Ω or 75 Ω with a nominal tolerance of ± 0.5 %.
