Keysight/Agilent E1488A Instrument Memory Module
The E1488A from Keysight/Agilent is a 2 to 16 Mbyte Instrument Memory Module for VXI based test and measurement systems. It employs low power static RAM mounted on plug in circuit boards to provide a modular and scalable storage solution. The module is engineered to support reliable and high speed memory operations in industrial automation and instrumentation environments. The memory capacity of the memory module can be expanded in the field without disrupting system operation.
The module incorporates battery backed Static RAM to ensure that all stored data is reliably preserved during power interruptions. An on board battery is switched in to maintain memory contents when the primary system power is removed. The E1488A can be physically detached from the mainframe chassis while continuing to retain all stored data. The battery life is nominally two months at 25 °C and seven days at 70 °C with maximum SRAM installed.
The Instrument Memory Module supports three nonvolatility options to protect stored data under varying power supply conditions. The on board battery functions as a primary standalone data protection source independent of any chassis power connection. The VXI + 5 V standby line serves as an alternative retention source when system power is cycled. An external + 3 to + 5 V supply connects through the faceplate BNC connector for extended data retention.
The memory module delivers LBUS transfer speeds exceeding 80 MB/s nominal for high throughput read and write operations. The VXI Transfer Bus delivers over 3 MB/s in 16 bit mode and over 6 MB/s in 32 bit mode. The module operates as a register based slave device with A16 addressing and D16/D32 data width compatibility. The VXI backplane access is performed serially through a single register interface without shared RAM support. The interrupts are triggered upon reaching the end of the programmed byte count as defined during system setup. The E1488A Instrument Memory Module does not support a SCSI-2 interface and uses the VXI bus for all data transfer operations. The model draws 25 watts per slot and needs 2.60 liters per second of airflow. The differential pressure is specified at 0.25 mm H?O for standard VXI mainframe ventilation compatibility.
