The Keysight E8480A is a 40-channel high-power general-purpose switch module designed for automated test systems. It operates as a single slot VXIbus C-Size register based product within a C-Size VXIbus mainframe. It is designed to switch and route high-current sources, including AC and DC power supplies. The switch delivers reliable and repeatable switching performance across demanding industrial and automated test environments.
The Keysight E8480A employs non-latching Form A relays distributed uniformly across all 40 channels. The typical relay life reaches 1×10? switching operations when the model operates under no load conditions. The relay life is rated at 1×10? operations at a rated load of 5 Vdc and 0.1 A. The switching consists of opening or closing a channel relay to provide alternate connections to user devices. The General Purpose Switch operates with a peak module current draw of 3.5 A at +5 V. The module supports a maximum transient voltage rating of 2500 Vpk across its input channels. Each channel supports a maximum non inductive current of 12 Adc at 30 Vdc or 12 Aacrms. The maximum power per channel is 360 W or 3360 VA, and the full module supports up to 2160 W.
The DC performance specifications of the E8480A 40 Channel General Purpose Switch include an initial closed channel resistance of 0.1 Ω typical. The isolation resistance between any two points exceeds 10? Ω at 40°C and 65% relative humidity. When measured at 25°C and 40% relative humidity, the channel isolation resistance increases to exceed 10? Ω. The thermal offset specification per channel is held below 10 μV to minimize errors in precision measurements.
