The 781173-01 compactRIO controller from National Instruments is a part of the cRIO-9023 Model series. This robust, fanless controller is designed for complex industrial automation control and monitoring applications. Its sturdy design guarantees dependable operation even in demanding settings.

The 781173-01 has a 533 MHz Freescale MPC8347 real-time CPU, 256 MB of DRAM, and 2 GB of nonvolatile storage. These specifications provide enough of processing and memory capacity. It has two Ethernet ports that are compatible with both 100BaseTX and 10BaseT Ethernet standards, offering a variety of connectivity choices for network connectivity. The controller also has an RS-232 DTE serial port that it can use to interface with other devices, including input devices or displays.

The 781173-01 features a USB connection with a maximum data rate of 480 Mb/s and a maximum current of 500 mA for peripheral connectivity and data exchange. This makes it possible to seamlessly integrate with popular USB mass-storage devices, which makes data transfer and storage activities easier.

For applications that need exact timing synchronization, the controller incorporates an inbuilt 200 ppm (parts per million) RTC (real-time clock) to provide accurate timekeeping. Additionally, by keeping an eye on power supply voltages—albeit with a minor underreporting because of internal voltage drops—the integrated voltage input monitor improves system reliability.

The 781173-01 has a recommended power supply of 55 W secondary and a maximum voltage of 35 VDC. After powerup, it functions within a voltage range of 6 V to 35 V. With greater power management flexibility, it pulls power from the source that has a higher voltage between its primary (V1) and secondary (V2) inputs.

Although the 781173-01 lacks integrated module slots, it is made to work with C Series I/O modules. Its capabilities can be expanded to meet a variety of application demands, though, by combining it with a suitable CompactRIO Chassis to support C Series modules.
