National Instruments 783816-02 sbRIO-9607 Zynq-7020 FPGA CompactRIO Single-Board Controller
The National Instruments 783816-02 (sbRIO-9607) is an OEM-ready, single-board CompactRIO embedded controller designed for high-volume industrial control, monitoring, and hardware-in-the-loop applications. Built on the Xilinx Zynq-7000 XC7Z020 All Programmable System-on-Chip (SoC), the controller integrates a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor running at 667 MHz alongside reconfigurable FPGA logic on a single circuit board. Operating under deterministic 32-bit NI Linux Real-Time, the processor is supported by 512 MB of nonvolatile storage and 512 MB of high-speed DRAM for embedded application execution, data logging, and signal analysis.
The onboard Zynq-7020 FPGA provides reconfigurable hardware processing for ultra-low latency timing, custom triggering, and high-speed signal manipulation. The FPGA fabric incorporates 85,000 logic cells, 106,400 flip-flops, 53,200 6-input LUTs, and 220 dedicated DSP slices, supplemented by 560 KB of block RAM and 16 DMA channels for high-throughput data transfer between the processor and real-time execution engines.
For multi-protocol networking and peripheral interfacing, the sbRIO-9607 features two Gigabit Ethernet ports (Eth0 on the front panel and Eth1 via the RMC connector) compliant with IEEE 802.3 standards supporting 10/100/1000Base-T auto-negotiation. Serial and industrial communication options include one onboard RS-232 serial port (Serial1) with up to four additional RS-232 ports exposed through the RMC connector (supporting baud rates up to 230,400 bps), along with one onboard CAN interface (CAN0 utilizing an NXP PCA82C251T transceiver) and a second CAN interface (CAN1) accessible via the RMC connector for data rates ranging from 10 kbps to 1 Mbps.
I/O expansion is anchored by an integrated RMC (RIO Mezzanine Card) high-density connector, exposing 96 single-ended, 3.3 V bidirectional digital I/O lines directly tied to the FPGA logic. Each digital I/O line supports up to ±3 mA drive current, enabling direct connection to custom daughterboards, C Series module expansion adapters, or specialized signal conditioning hardware while maintaining a compact, low-power single-board form factor.
