National Instruments sbRIO-9636 CompactRIO Single-Board Controller
Featured with digital and analog I/O, the NI sbRIO-9636 (Part Number: 782128-01) is an embedded Single-Board Real-Time Controller for CompactRIO systems. This Controller comes with 512 megabytes of internal storage, 256 megabytes of dynamic RAM, and a 400 MHz industrial-grade processor. The digital lines provided on this Controller are controlled directly through an integrated field-programmable gate array (FPGA). In addition to commonly found communication interfaces, the sbRIO 9636 comes with an SDHC standard compatible SD port.
This CompactRIO Single-Board Controller has sixteen 16-bit analog input channels, four 16-bit analog output channels, and twenty-eight bidirectional digital I/O channels. The NI sbRIO-9636 allows you to program each analog input channel separately. Thus, you can operate different analog input channels over differing input ranges. The provision of programmable input ranges is a function of the programmable gain instrumentation amplifier incorporated in this Controller, since it amplifies the analog input signal as per the user-desired input range. Therefore, you can operate the sbRIO-9636 over different analog input ranges, such as –10 V to 10 V, –5 V to 5 V, –1 V to 1 V, etc. with 16-bit resolution. The device has a power consumption value of 24.7 W max.
The National Instruments NI sbRIO 9636 CompactRIO Single-Board Controller has two RS-232 serial ports and one RS-485 serial port. The embedded CAN port has an NXP PCA82C251T transceiver and can operate with up to 1 Mbps baud rate. This CompactRIO Single-Board Controller fully supports connectivity through a universal serial bus (USB). Thus, you can add storage by using USB enabled flash drives or thumb drives.
The sbRIO 9636 is run using the NI-RIO driver software (version 4.1 or later) which can be programmed with software packages or application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW 2011 SPI or later, LabVIEW Real-Time Module 2011 SPI or later, or LabVIEW FPGA Module 2011 SPI or later. The NI device weighs 4.66 oz, and has a recommended operating temperature range of -40 to 85 °C.
sbRIO-9636 Obsolete Status has been announced by National Instruments, but the CompactRIO Single-Board Controller will still be available for purchase and repairs by Apex Waves.

National Instruments sbRIO-9636 Frequently Asked Questions
Question: How do you connect a power supply to the sbRIO-9636?
Answer: To connect a power supply to the sbRIO-9636, make sure that the power supply is off, and then connect the V lead of the power supply to position 1 of the power connector plug. Next, connect the C lead of the power supply to position 2 of the 2-position power connector plug. Insert the power connector plug into the power connector receptacle of the NI sbRIO device until the connector latches into place. Finally, turn the power supply on.
Question: What does the reset button of the sbRIO-9636 do?
Answer: When pressed, the reset button of the sbRIO-9636 reboots the processor. However, the FPGA continues to
run unless you select the 'Autoload VI on device reboot' boot option.
Question: What does it indicate when the Status LED of the sbRIO-9636 flashes twice every few seconds?
Answer: If the Status LED of the sbRIO-9636 flashes 2 times every few seconds, it indicates that the device has detected a software error- and the software may need to be reinstalled.
