National Instruments USB-6501 Digital I/O Device

The NI USB-6501 (Part Number: 779205-01, 192317-50, 192317E-50L (OEM)) is a small, portable Digital I/O Device. The USB-6501 NI incorporates USB cable strain relief and an LED indicator. The LED indicator utilizes green to show the device status. This LED indicator indicates the working status of the device in three different ways. If this LED is not lit, then the device is not connected. The LED does not give light when the Digital I/O Device is in suspended mode. The light is ON without blinking when the NI USB-6501 is connected. This shows that the device has not initialized yet. The LED gives a single blink when the device is working normally. Part number 192317-50 is the board only OEM version of the USB-6501

The USB 6501 DAQ comes with two connector plugs for digital signals. These connector plugs have screw terminals. All the screw terminals of the plugs are detachable. The terminal connectors are compatible with different wires. This range of compatibility is from 16 AWG to 28 AWG.

The USB 6501 National Instruments provides protection against different voltage malfunctions. These malfunctions include overvoltage conditions. They also incorporate conditions of under-voltage and conditions of over-current. The user can avoid these conditions if they follow the instructions mentioned in the user manual. This device provides a small voltage of 5 V through two pins. The pins are present on terminals. This voltage can vary from system to system.

This device has 24 Digital Input/Output lines. The USB-6501 24-channel Digital I/O Device has an open collector default configuration for the DIO ports. An external pull-up resistor provided by the user can be added to increase the source current drive to an 8.5 mA limit for each line. The device has a USB 2.0 bus connector, and has a digital input voltage range of -0.3 V to 5.8 V. This Digital I/O Device also includes 1 counter/timer with 32-bits resolution. The USB DIO 6501 offers a transfer rate of 12 Mbit/s. The Instrument is run using the NIDAQmx driver software which is compatible with software packages or application development environments like LabVIEW and LabWIndows/CVI.
