National Instruments 777742-01 Multifunction I/O Device
The National Instruments 777742-01, also known as the PCI-6023, is a flexible, multipurpose I/O device that may be used for a variety of tasks including research, manufacturing tests, design verification, and automation in laboratories. In addition to eight digital I/O lines and two 24-bit counters, this device provides 16 analog inputs with 12-bit resolution and a 200 kS/s sampling rate. It improves measuring capabilities by enabling high-voltage and sensor measurements and is compatible with SCC or SCXI signal conditioning modules.
Three separate input configurations are supported by the 777742-01: differential (DIFF), referenced single-ended (RSE), and nonreferenced single-ended (NRSE). The differential arrangement can support up to eight channels, while the single-ended variants can support up to sixteen channels. This device supports multimode scanning with per-channel programming, allowing for combinations such scanning 12 channels with a combination of DIFF and RSE inputs.
Featuring eight digital I/O lines (DIO<0..7>), the 777742-01 provides general-purpose use where each line can be individually configured for input or output via software. Upon system startup and reset, these digital I/O ports are in a high-impedance state.
To control time-related operations for analog input, analog output, and general-purpose counter/timer capabilities, the device makes use of the National Instruments DAQ-STC system timing controller. With a maximum timing resolution of 50 ns, the DAQ-STC has three 16-bit counters and seven 24-bit counters. Because of this, the device can be used for tasks like comparable time sampling, buffered pulse generation, and smooth sampling rate modifications.
The 777742-01 uses the Real-Time System Integration (RTSI) bus to handle synchronization issues across various measurement functions. The RTSI bus interface and a ribbon cable are used in a PCI system to route timing and trigger signals among up to five DAQ devices. Up to seven DAQ devices can be connected by the RTSI bus in a PXI system using the trigger signals from the PXI backplane. Furthermore, this device may interface with a SCXI system in order to obtain digital signals for control and communication as well as analog signals from a variety of sources, including thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, voltage, and current sources.
To fully utilize the characteristics of the 777742-01, a broad library of functions available from a variety of application programming environments is provided by the bundled NI-DAQ driver software.
