National Instruments PXIe-7976 PXI FPGA Module for FlexRIO

The K410T FPGA, 3.2 GB/s, 2 GB DRAM PXIe-7976 (Part Number: 783625-01) is an FPGA Module designed for FlexRIO. The accompanying LabVIEW FPGA IP center permits lossless information compression in view of the modified Lempel-Ziv-Ross-Williams-1 algorithm. The focus is on high throughput of uncompressed information at the cost of a fairly bring down compression ratio. Two bytes of uncompressed data can be processed at each clock cycle. An example with coder and decoder is incorporated for one channel and two channel compressions (suitable for RF Data streaming). The core is completely pipelined to permit high clock speeds. 100 MHz can easily be accomplished on the NI PXIe-7976. This results in a maximum compression throughput of almost 200 MBytes/sec.

With the PXIe-7976 FlexRIO FPGA Module, the user can access eight trigger lines, named PXI_Trig <0..7>, on the PXI Express backplane. These trigger lines can be used to communicate between numerous gadgets in a similar chassis.

When developing a high-level VI on the NI PXIe 7976 that uses triggers, users can hold the trigger lines to utilize and, to guarantee similarity with other FlexRIO gadgets, configure trigger pulses to keep going for no less than two clock cycles of the clock on the receiving device. For example, if the clock on the receiving gadget is 80 MHz, which is a clock time of 12.5 nanoseconds, the trigger line must be consistent for no less than 25 nanoseconds, which is two cycles of an 80 MHz clock.
