National Instruments GPIB-PCIIA GPIB Interface

The GPIB-PCIIA (Part Numbers: 776113-01 and 776113-51) is an IEEE 488 compatible GPIB Interface built for computers with ISA slots. The NI GPIB-PCIIA is produced by the manufacturer National Instruments. The compatible boards with this GPIB Interface based on NEC μPD7210 are all GPIB-PCIIB boards and TI-TMS 9914A controller-chip based interface boards. With the use of the National Instruments GPIB-PCIIA GPIB Interface, PCs, PC/XT, IBAM, PCAT, and many other systems can be transformed into fully functioning and operating Listeners, Talkers, and IEEE 488.2 Controllers. This transformation can be done by using the equipped NAT4882 ASIC for the NI GPIB-PCIIA interface.

The GPIB-PCIIA can connect as many as 14 other instruments by using standard GPIB cables. These connections with a single NI GPIB-PCIIA interface can be increased by using a bus expansion or an extension by National Instruments. With the use of DIP switches, the I/O base address, mode of operations such as TI TMS9914A and NEC μPD7210, and the compatibility of GPIB-PCIIA or GPIB-PCII and I/O base address can be selected. The device has typical and maximum power requirements of 50 mA and 120 mA respectively at +5 VDC.

This GPIB Interface is easy to configure by using the NI-488.2 driver software. There are many built in libraries and utilities present in the NI-488.2 driver software. The dynamic link libraries, language interface libraries, debugging utilities, and development utilities are present in NI-488.2. The device can be programmed using software packages/application development environments (ADEs) such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Microsoft Visual Basic. When used with NI-488.2, the NI GPIB-PCIIA GPIB Interface can provide full bus management and a communication channel to a simple system, which can transform it into a flexible, reliable, and fully functional system. Also, the GPIB interface is compatible with the Windows 3.1/DOS operating system. It is equipped with an IEE 488 standard 24-pin I/O connector.

The NI device measures 4.2 x 4.4 in. in physical dimensions. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of 0° to 70° C and –20° to 70° C, non-condensing operating and storage humidity ranges of 10% to 90% and 5% to 90%.
