The National Instruments 781003-01 (USB-6212) is a bus-powered, USB-based multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) device designed for high-accuracy test, control, and signal measurement applications. The unit features 16 analog inputs with 16-bit resolution, capable of handling 16 single-ended or 8 differential channels at aggregate sampling rates up to 400 kS/s. It includes four selectable input voltage ranges (±0.2 V, ±1 V, ±5 V, and ±10 V), guaranteed 16-bit no-missing-codes performance, and a 50 ns timing resolution. Built-in overvoltage protection safeguards up to two AI pins against conditions up to ±30 V while powered, while a 4,095-sample FIFO buffer and USB Signal Streaming technology maintain continuous, high-throughput data transfers to the host computer.
Complementing its input capabilities, the USB-6212 provides two 16-bit analog output channels with a update rate of 250 kS/s per channel and a ±10 V output range. The DACs feature guaranteed monotonicity, a 5 V/µs slew rate, an output impedance of 0.2 Ω, and a 32 µs settling time to within 15 ppm of full scale. An 8,191-sample onboard output FIFO buffer supports both periodic waveform regeneration and non-periodic arbitrary waveform generation, backed by integrated current-limiting and overdrive protection up to ±30 V.
For digital I/O and hardware timing, the 781003-01 provides up to 32 bidirectional digital lines alongside two 32-bit counter/timers. The counters support edge counting, pulse generation, semi-period measurements, and quadrature encoder decoding (X1, X2, X4 configurations with channel Z reloading). Driven by onboard base clocks of 80 MHz, 20 MHz, and 100 kHz with 50 ppm frequency accuracy, the device provides an ideal all-in-one solution for portable data logging, laboratory research, and automated production testing.
