National Instruments part number 777942-01 is an identifying part number for the PXI-PCI8330 an MXI-3 Interface Kit. The National Instruments 777942-01 enables computers to directly control PXI or CompactPCI systems through a seamless software and hardware connection. This Interface Kit uses MXI-3 technology and includes the PCI-8330 plug-in board, the PXI-8330 module, and an MXI-3 cable. The kit can be purchased with all these components or as individual parts. Additionally, two PXI-8330 modules can be used to connect two PXI/CompactPCI systems. MXI-3 technology supports daisy-chaining multiple systems and complies with the PCI-to-PCI bridging specification, allowing for star configurations as well. 

No software is needed for standard MXI-3 system operation. The 777942-01 Interface Kit can use copper cables ranging from 2 to 10 meters in length. Copper cable kits are more affordable, while fiber-optic cable kits are more expensive but suitable for longer distances or electrical isolation. When connected with a copper cable, the data link can achieve serial data rates of 1.5 Gbit per second. The device includes the NI MXI-3 ASIC, Serial Transmitter, Serial Receiver, High-Speed Serial Data Connector (HSSDC) Receptacle, and HSSDC Cable. 

Installing this kit in a PC allows the computer to recognize and service PXI/CompactPCI interrupt lines in every connected chassis, transparently extending these interrupt lines across each chassis. This MXI-3 Interface Kit is compatible with several operating systems, including Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows, and Apple Mac OS. The PCI model of the device weighs 5 oz and has physical dimensions of 4.2 x 6.9 inches. The PXI model weighs 8 oz and has physical dimensions of 3.9 x 6.3 inches.
